The 3rd Annual Pinot & Pooch

October 4-5, 2008, 12-6 p.m.

Urban Wineworks and DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital
are teaming up for the 3rd Annual Pinot and Pooch

Dogs, Wine, and Art ... what could be a better combination? Come out and join us for an afternoon of doggie sketch artists, beautiful wine, raffles, and musical entertainment. We will have numerous canine sketch artists on hand to create a memorable image of your best friend while you sip Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from Bishop Creek Cellars. If you purchase three bottles of wine, your dog's portrait will be free of charge! A portion of the proceeds from this event will be going to DoveLewis, the only non-profit, 24-hour emergency and ICU animal hospital in Oregon. The event will run from 12-6 PM on Saturday and Sunday, with the sketches taking about 20 minutes.

On both days of the event we will be raffling away prizes donated by our sponsors, including pet photography and portrait sessions, massage, gourmet doggie meals, art, accessories, and more!

Portraits will be booked by appointment only, so call Urban Wineworks at 503/226-9797 to reserve your spot!

FEATURED ARTISTS:

Kellee Beaudry
As a native Oregonian, Kellee grew up with a love of nature and this is reflected in her work. Kellee is primarily self-taught. She began about three years ago painting what she loved, the animals of the Northwest and her own dogs. Soon people began noticing her work and, to her surprise, paintings began to sell. Kellee’s work is painterly and employs vivid color and bold brush strokes. This energy, and her ability to capture expression in her subjects, brings a presence to her work that is very engaging.

Ken Klos
As an artist, Ken has been painting oils since 1980. Most of his work is landscapes with some still life, and portraits. He has sold paintings to individuals, and is available for commission work. He has also done illustration work, both architectural and graphic. Ken is also an architect (a generalist, not specializing in any one building type). His approach to each new project searches for a unique solution, and is not prescribed. He has designed single houses, multiple residences, educational, commercial, and religious buildings.

Nancy Klos

For the last few years, Nancy has been concentrating on using watercolor pencils on halftone paper to achieve the results she wants in her pet portraits. The effect is really beautiful. She is able to create a softness and subtlety with her subjects that adds a style of freshness to the art work. Her clientelle is at this time regional, but she is hoping soon that this will become national with her new membership to The Society of Artists!

Sarah Kos
Sarah Kos is a local artist living in Salem. She paints and draws a wide range of subjects, but you find her passion focuses on animals. She feels that each dog, cat, horse, etc., can tell you exactly what they are saying. The challenge of capturing and communicating that into a painting or drawing is always exciting and rewarding. Sarah’s lengthy experience training dogs helps her gain an intimate knowledge of each one’s personality and charm. Her portraits are popular around the Salem dog agility crowds and are a delightful addition to any home that cherishes their dog as much as she does.

Laura Lou Reynoldson
Laura Lou is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art. She started painting pet portraits by accident. She needed a subject for a painting and her cat, Oliver, was lying around and it occurred to her to paint him. She expressed his frolicking manners, his “old man” self and his loving traits. Because she found herself having fun while painting, she soon did portraits for other friends and family and the fun created true enthusiasm. She now works by commission and has a studio in her backyard. She works with chalk pastels that are made by hand by an artist in Colorado, and uses colors you cannot find in art stores. It is truly an amazing effect to be able to communicate the individual personalities of pets with colors that are just as individualized.

Janeanna Schuck
Janeanna Schuck has been drawing since she was very little. Her passion has always been dogs. So naturally she started by drawing dogs and continued the passion all the way through her years of drawing, and recently received a bachelor’s degree for Media Arts and Animation. So not only is she drawing dogs, she’s animating them as well! Janeanna’s main goal in life is to become successful with her art so she can use her profits in helping stop puppy mills and animal abuse.

Morgan Wick

Morgan has lived in Portland for ten years, originally from Northern California. He works in the printing industry, and has been enjoying drawing and skateboarding for 24 years. His murals from the Ace Hotel have been showcased in Elle, I.D. and Flaunt magazines, as well as the New York Times. View more of his art at www.lardlungs.com.
