Featuring Encaustic Art by Linda Womack and Music by Eric Skye

"The fragility of life has long been a recurring theme in my work; exploring how we grow, develop and cease to exist in our current forms and what evidence remains of our existence when we are gone.

Influenced by my childhood in Hawai’i, my paintings incorporate abstractions of nature, particularly wind and water and how they alter the world around us with the passage of time. Images of the bits you might flick off your coat or crunch beneath your shoes symbolize humanity both transforming and being transformed by natural processes. The letters floating through my paintings are reminders that spoken words are powerful enough to leave a mark that cannot be recaptured and always remains in some form, if only memory.

My work pairs modern materials with the ancient technique of encaustic painting, where beeswax, resin and pigment are layered to produce a luminous surface that captures and reflects light. The translucency of the wax creates layers of information, like the sediment of time, while stirring the senses of sight, smell, and touch."

Linda Womack shares her love of encaustic painting through national gallery exhibits, books, blogs and live workshops. She is the author of Embracing Encaustic: Learning to Paint with Beeswax and the founder of the Oregon chapter of the International Encaustic Artists. Linda is often a featured speaker and instructor at the International Encaustic Conference and her work has been published in Studio Visit and American Art Collector. For more information, please visit her website at www.lindawomack.com.

Linda's art will be displayed at Bishop Creek Cellars' Newberg tasting room through the month of January.

Featured Music: Eric Skye (6 - 8 pm)
Pacific Northwest based acoustic jazz guitarist Eric Skye occupies a unique position by clearly being in the classic jazz guitar camp, but with the intimate uncluttered sound of the acoustic steel string guitar, and an eclectic array of influences ranging from newgrass, to latin music, to vintage soul jazz and funk... all threaded together with the blues and a healthy respect for the groove.

We're always looking for new art and music! For information about showing your work or performing in our tasting room, please submit demos/portfolios to:
